Marran revamp closes on 2.1 million hours without a recordable injury

The three-year hydrocracker revamp in Basra governorate finished with no recordable injuries across two major shutdowns and 2.1 million worked hours.

The Marran refinery hydrocracker revamp has closed out its safety record at 2.1 million worked hours with no recordable injuries, covering two shutdowns of 34 and 41 days and a peak construction workforce of 1,900.

The result rests on a decision taken early in planning: everything that could be prefabricated off the critical path was, so the shutdown scope became lifting and tie-in rather than fabrication in confined space alongside live plant.

The unit returned to service in August 2023 at 62,000 barrels a day producing diesel at 10 ppm sulphur, a 28 per cent capacity uplift on the original train.
